Services

Sydney Echo Clinic offers two core diagnostic services: Transthoracic Echocardiography and Stress Echocardiography. Both are non-invasive cardiac ultrasound tests performed using advanced imaging equipment by accredited professionals. Our aim is to provide accurate, guideline-aligned studies that support referring doctors in diagnosing and managing a wide range of cardiovascular conditions.

Transthoracic Echocardiogram (echo)

An echo is a standard, non-invasive ultrasound test that provides detailed images of the heart’s chambers, valves, and function.

Common reasons for referral include:

  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Palpitations
  • Dizziness or light-headedness
  • Cardiac assessment
  • Abnormal clinical exam findings (such as an unusually low or fast resting heart rate)

What to expect:

  • An ultrasound probe with gel will capture images of your heart
  • Images will be taken from multiple places across your chest
  • These images are used to assess your heart's size and function to help rule-in or rule-out your heart being the cause of your symptoms
  • The test is painless and does not involve radiation

Stress Echocardiogram (stress echo)

A stress echo is used to assess how the heart performs under physical exertion. While your heart may look normal at rest, some problems can only be revealed when the heart is under stress.

Common reasons for referral include:

  • Chest pain with exertion
  • Shortness of breath with exertion
  • Features of coronary artery disease
  • Evaluation of known coronary artery disease
  • Other potential cardiac disease that can be revealed by a stress echo

What to expect:

  • Some images are taken of your heart at rest with the ultrasound probe
  • You'll exercise on the treadmill for roughly 5–10 minutes
  • Immediately after exercise, the same images of your heart are taken while your heart rate is high
